Working With the Hands explores the powerful role African Americans have played in industries built through skill, creativity, innovation, and craftsmanship—from custom motorcycles and Lowriders to automotive restoration, fabrication, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship.
The documentary also reaches back into history, examining the often-overlooked connections between Booker T. Washington, Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, Black industrial education, entrepreneurship, and the emergence of America’s automobile age.
But this story isn’t only about the past—it’s about the future.
As Artificial Intelligence transforms the workforce, Working With the Hands highlights skilled trades and hands-on industries that can provide our youth with practical pathways to careers, entrepreneurship, ownership, and generational wealth.
We built with our hands before AI—and our hands can help build the future.
